Students will analyze The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini by focusing study around the following five major themes of the novel: redemption, loyalty and friendship, isolation, loss of innocence and the relationship between parents and children. Students will investigate the novel in two major ways: a close reading of the novel through a mixture of group and independent study and thematic writing extension assignments. The unit products include ongoing reading responses, weekly exams, character diaries and a symbolism poem.
